Tegan Bristow

Dr. Tegan Bristow is Director of Education at Diriyah Art Futures Centre with the Ministry of Culture in Saudi Arabia. Prior to 2023 Bristow was Fak’ugesi Principal Researcher & Senior Lecturer at the Wits School of the Arts – with a specialisation on African Art, Culture and Technology. Bristow's specialisation is on technology and culture in how it relates to historic and contemporary practices of capatalism in the sub-altern. Exploring indigenous knowledges along side de-colonial practices in technology. Bristow additionally acted as Editor in Chief and Digital Editor of the Ellipses Journal for Creative Research. From 2016 to 2020 Bristow directed the Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival while working at Wits University and now works closely between Fak’ugesi Festival, Tshimologong Innovation Precinct and the Wits School of Arts developing research on the Digital Creative Industries. In this work Bristow partnered with the GIZ to map and develop the landscape of intermediary sector support for digital cultural industry in Africa. In 2021 Bristow won the National Science and Technology Forum Award for Sustainable Development in the Creative Industries for her work in co-founding and developing the Fak’ugesi Festival.
