Kieran Tuohy

Kieran Tuohy graduated (BSc, Industrial Microbiology) from University College Dublin, Ireland in 1993. He received an MSc in Environmental Microbiology from the University of Aberdeen (UK) in 1995, and his PhD from the University of Surrey (UK) in 2000. Between 2000 and 2006 he trained as a post-doctoral researcher with Professor Glenn Gibson, University of Reading. In 2006 he was appointed lecturer in Food Metabonomics at the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Reading. He now heads the Nutrition and Nutrigenomics Unit at Fondazione Edmund Mach, Trento, Italy. He is an Associate Editor at the European Journal of Nutrition and the Journal of Functional Foods. He is a visiting Professor at Ulster University (UK), School of Biomedical Sciences, and act as co-chair of the ILSI Europe task force on Health Benefits Assessment of Foods.His research focuses on how microbiomes both within the gut and along the food chain impact on human nutrition, health and disease risk. His team has a particular interest in examining how different dietary components modulate the intestinal microbiota, their metabolic output, and their ability to impact on host health and chronic disease risk.
