XIII SOUTH AMERICAN SYMPOSIUM ON ISOTOPE GEOLOGY

60th Anniversary of the Centro de Pesquisas Geocronológicas – USP

🗓️ 12 – 15 May 2024

📍Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Invitation

Dear Geoscientific community,

We are pleased to announce that the XIII South American Symposium on Isotope Geology (SSAGI) will be held from May 12th to 15th 2024 at the Armação dos Búzios town, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil.

The SSAGI will be held in a presencial format at Hotel Atlântico Búzios Convention Center (Estrada da Usina, 294 - Morro do Humaitá, Armação de Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Zip Code 28950-255).

The symposium aims to bring together geoscientists to present new contributions and exchange ideas on the application of isotope geochemistry and geochronology to basic and applied research. The conferences will cover subjects like crustal and mantle evolution, geochronology of metamorphic and igneous processes, geochronology and isotope geochemistry of ore deposits, low temperature geochronology of geological processes, isotope applications in paleoclimatology, sedimentary provenance, environmental geochemistry and hydrogeology, forensic science, and new isotope developments.

The XIII SSAGI is hosted by the SBG- Brazilian Geological Society and organized by a committee composed by geoscientists from Universities, Research Centers and Mining and Oil Companies of South to North America.

Past events

The first South American Symposium on Isotopic Geology (SSAGI) was organized by researchers from USP as part of the celebrations of the 33rd anniversary of the university's founding. The first event in 1997 was very well received by the geological community and featured internationally renowned guest scientists, quickly establishing itself as a milestone for researchers in this area, so much so that bi-annual editions have been rotating venues. in South American countries. Twelve events have been held since then, 4 of which were in Brazil:

• I - Campos do Jordão – Brasil (1997)

• II - Córdoba – Argentina (1999)

• III - Pucón – Chile (2001)

• IV - Salvador – Brasil (2003)

• V – Punta Del Este – Uruguai (2006)

• VI – Bariloche – Argentina (2008)

• VII – Brasília – Brasil (2010)

• VIII – Medelin - Colômbia (2012)

• IX – São Paulo – Brasil  (2014)

• X – Porto Valarta – Mexico (2016)

• XI – Cochabanba – Bolivia (2018)

• XII – Santiago – Chile (2022)

Thematic sessions

  1. Crustal Evolution of the Andes and Central America Cordillera
  2. Crustal Evolution of the Pre-Andes and Patagonia
  3. Crustal Evolution of the Archean Blocks and Proterozoic Orogens
  4. Low Temperature Geochronology Applied to Tectonics and Geomorphology
  5. Isotopes in Sedimentary Systems: Stratigraphy, Provenance and Petroleum Systems
  6. New Frontiers in Isotopic Studies: Medical Geology, Forensics, Environment and Climate Change
  7. Isotope Studies Applied to Mineral Resources for the Energy Transition
  8. Isotopes in Magmatic Systems: Crust-mantle Dynamics
  9. 60 Years of the Centro de Pesquisas em Geocronologia e Geoquímica Isotópica - CPGeo*

*Due to the relevance of the celebration, the Organizing Committee encourages the submission to Session 9 of abstracts on the subjects of new laboratories, new techniques and methodological aspects of analytical work.
