Eric Magel

Eric Magel is a principal engineer with the National Research Council Canada.  He completed his Master’s degree in tribology (friction lubrication and wear) in 1990 at the University of British Columbia and then worked three years studying fretting wear of nuclear steam generator tubes. He has since been working with the NRC for nearly 30 years on topics involving the wheel-rail interaction including wear, friction, contact mechanics rolling contact fatigue, corrugation, noise and ride quality. He has worked with transit, passenger and freight railroads around the world, including in Brazil, Peru and Colombia and has taught in many seminars in Europe, South Africa, Australia and the Americas.
