INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF SYMPOSIUM PROPOSALS FOR THE XX BRAZILIAN CONGRESS OF BIOMECHANICS (XX CBB)
The XX CBB Organizing Committee will provide the opportunity for national and international researchers and companies to hold symposia with relevant topics to the biomechanics area. The symposia will take place on April 20 and 21, 2023 during the XX CBB. No support for tickets, accommodation nor registration will be provided for the symposia organizers.
1. Purpose
Provide the opportunity for researchers to present the main findings and different views on the same topic in biomechanics, in addition to discussing and interacting with the public.
2. Feature of the symposia
- Topics that address new or controversial issues.
- Relationship between theoretical and practical fields.
- Include speakers who research the same central topic from different approaches or perspectives.
- Encourage in-depth discussion and debate between presenters and the audience.
- Possibility of including doctoral and post-doctoral students among the speakers and organizers.
- Encouraging diversity among speakers.
3. Symposium format
Symposium sessions will include presentations by 3 (minimum) or 4 (maximum) individual speakers who will present theoretical concepts, practical applications and/or research on a specific pre-defined central topic. After the presentations, the symposium should include a scientific interaction between the speakers and the audience. The symposium should not exceed 1 hour and 45 minutes, including the audience interaction period.
4. Documents required for submission of proposals
1. Name, academic background, affiliation and e-mail of the symposium coordination (can be one of the speakers).
2. Names, academic backgrounds, affiliations and e-mails of the symposium speakers.
3. Letter of consent from the symposium speakers.
4. Thematic area of the symposium: clinical biomechanics, sports biomechanics, musculoskeletal biomechanics, teaching biomechanics, ergonomics, assistive technology and prostheses, locomotion and posture, models and data analysis in biomechanics, and motor control.
5. Title of the symposium (maximum 20 words).
6. Abstract with the description of the central topic of the symposium and justification of the importance of the proposed topic, considering the novelty and relevance of the topic (maximum 300 words).
7. Summary of each speaker's presentation on the central topic of the symposium (maximum 100 words per abstract).
8. Summary of the format of interaction between the speakers and the symposium coordinator with the public. Interaction strategies other than the Q&A session are encouraged (maximum 200 words).
9. Indicate two questions of the central topic of the symposium that stimulate discussion with the public.
10. Distribution of symposium time (symposium introduction, presentations and audience interaction).
5. Selection
Proposals will be analyzed by the Scientific Committee of the XX CBB, which will use the following evaluation criteria:
a) Relevance and novelty of the central topic of the symposium.
b) Diversity of perspectives on the central topic of the symposium.
c) Level of interaction between the presentations with the central topic of the symposium.
d) Potential interest for the XX CBB audience and possibility of discussion during the session.
e) Innovative strategies for interacting with the public.
f) Thematic area of the symposium (the selected symposia will be distributed equally among the thematic areas of the XX CBB, considering that all areas receive registration).
Proposals must be submitted in the participant area on the event page from August 15 to October 30, 2022. The result will be available until October 15, 2022, on the Brazilian Society of Biomechanics (SBB) and XX CBB websites, and by email to all applicants. The coordinator and speakers of the symposia must be registered at the XX CBB.
If accepted, the symposium coordinator must send an abstract of the symposium until December 1, 2022, which will be published in the annals of the event (maximum 500 words). The authors of the abstract should be the coordinator and the speakers of the symposium. The abstract must follow the abstract template of the congress available on the XX CBB webpage.
