Rémi Cardinael is a soil scientist and agronomist at CIRAD, currently hosted at the University of Zimbabwe. He holds a MSc in Agronomy from AgroParisTech (2011), and a PhD in Soil Sciences from the University of Paris-Saclay (2015). He has a large expertise in soil organic carbon dynamics and greenhouse gas emissions under various agroecological practices, including agroforestry, intercropping, conservation agriculture both in temperate and in tropical regions. He is a contributing author of the 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. He is an Editor-in-Chief of the EGU non-for-profit SOIL journal, and an Associate Editor for Plant and Soil, and for Agroforestry Systems. He is also an elected member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the 4 per Thousand Initiative.
