EMERGING TECHNIQUES AND DIGITAL TOOLS APPLIED FOR SOM STUDIES
PLENARY
BUDIMAN MINASNY, FRANCESCA COTRUFO

Professor Budiman Minasny has made transformative contributions to soil science by pioneering digital soil mapping and advancing the science of soil carbon sequestration and soil security. He builds soil intelligence at scale, integrating spectroscopy, remote sensing, and AI, creating cost-effective and scalable pipelines for soil property prediction and monitoring. In soil carbon research, he co-authored the landmark 4 per 1000 analysis and has since led critical work on soil carbon accounting frameworks, mineral-associated organic carbon stability, and microbial distribution. His research has consistently bridged methods, application, and governance, helping reposition soils at the heart of climate and sustainability agendas. Together, these contributions mark him as a global leader in building —translating soil science into operational, policy-ready solutions for climate resilience and sustainable development.
