Guidelines – Abstract submission XII SIGM
I. Deadline
● Registration of participants: 09-06-2021 to 10-26-2021.
● Abstract submission: 09-06-2021 to 10-01-2021.
● Evaluation of the abstracts by the XII SIGM scientific committee: 09-06-2021 to 10-13-2021.
● Final results of abstract evaluation: 15-10-2021.
● Submission of the presentation (video or panel): 10-18-2021 to 10-21-2021.
II. Guidelines for abstract
1. Submission and approval guide
1.1 The abstract must be submitted on the XII SIGM website, until 10-08-2021.
1.2 After received, the abstract will be sent for analysis by the XII SIGM scientific committee.
1.3 Abstracts outside the format indicated in the guidelines will be sent back for proper correction. The abstract with corrections must be upploaded, by the first author, on the submission platform.
1.4 Selected abstracts, based on their scientific merit, will be designated for presentation in video format. The list of selected abstracts will be announced on 10-15-2021. The first author will be notified, and, after accordance, should strictly follow all the necessary information, specified in III. A a template for the presentation will be also available in the XII SIGM website.
1.5 The remaining abstracts accepted in the XII SIGM should be sent in a panel format as below demonstrated (III).
2. Abstract
2.1. The abstract title must be concisely written, Arial font, size 14, in bold, centered and only the first letter capitalized. Scientific names and chemical elements must be written according to the standards.
2.2 The text must be written in Portuguese or English, font Arial, size 12, in A4 format, single spaced between lines, left, right, top and bottom margins with 2.5 cm.
2.3 The text must contain a minimum of 1,800 and a maximum of 2,200 characters (including spaces), excluding title, authors, and affiliations, in a single paragraph and justified alignment. Write the abstract directly and, preferably, in the perfect past tense. The abstract must be informative and include a brief introduction and justification, followed by the objectives of the work. In addition, it must contain the main procedures adopted, the most relevant results and conclusions.
2.4 The abstract can only be submitted by the first author, who must necessarily be registered for the event. As first author, the participant can only submit one abstract. From second author onwards, there are no limits on participations, with the limitation of up to 10 authors to abstract.
2.5 Three key-words shoul be indicated. They should be related with the core abstract ideia and should not be presented in the tittle.
2.6 Only unpublished, original, and related scientific contributions to the XII SIGM related areas will be considered (see topic IV).
2.7 Once the abstract has been completed, the author must check all the data and, if necessary, make corrections before the final submission. No correction will be made after the submission deadline. The certificate will be issued according to the information entered in the system. Spelling and grammar correction is the sole responsibility of the authors.

III. Abstract presentation - Preparation and Submission Rules
1. Initial remarks
1.1 After abstract acceptance, the authors will receive an email informing the category in which their abstract will be presented. There will be two formats for abstract presentation: PANEL or VIDEO. After reviewing and accepting the abstracts, the best fifteen will be selected and presented in video format. The other abstracts should be presented in a panel format that will be available on the XII SIGM website.
1.2 The final date for the insertion of the video or panel on the XII SIGM website will be 10-21-2021.
1.3 The submission of the presentation in the system will be carried out by the first author after the abstract approval by the XII SIGM scientific committee (see scheduled date for more information).
1.4 Video or panel submissions sent by email, or any other ways will not be considered. The submission must be made directly, and exclusively, in the XII SIGM system.
1.5 Only study considered to be in VIDEO format will participate of the “Fabyano Fonseca e Silva Award” by its scientific merit.
1.6 The abstract content, preparation, and submission is the sole responsibility of the first author.
2. Panel
2.1 Considering a panel format, the author must submit a PDF file.
2.2 The panel must be prepared, according to model standards available on the website, being able to be adapted to each specific case.
2.3 The panel must contain:
2.3.1 Default header.
2.3.2 Title, identical to that from the abstract.
2.3.3 Name of authors, respective laboratories, departments or institutes and institutions.
2.3.4 If essential, the main bibliographic references and mention of the funding agency may be included.
2.3.5 Figures, photos, tables, or other graphic resources may be inserted, if necessary.
2.4 The PANEL must be prepared in vertical orientation and arranged on ONE page. In the texts, the use of the font Arial, size 36 is suggested.
2.5 The file must be saved in PDF format, with a maximum size of 5mb and submitted to the XII SIGM system by the first author within the period indicated in the schedule, after approval of the abstract.
2.6 It will not be allowed to change or replace the file after submission of the presentation by the author.
2.7 Panels will be displayed virtually on the XII SIGM website, indefinitely.

3. Video
3.1 Considering the video format, the author must record the media in a program of their choice. The VIDEO should be upload at XII SIGM website.
3.2 The video must MUST be presented by the FIRST AUTHOR.
3.3 The title of the video must refer to the abstract submitted.
3.4 The duration of the video must be, at most, 10 minutes longer.
3.5 At the beginning, the video participants must introduce themselves, indicating their full name and institution of origin.
3.6 No alteration or replacement of files will be allowed after submission of the presentation by the author in the XII SIGM system.
IV. Core areas
The XII SIGM core areas for abstract submission will be:

2. Biometrics, statistics, and quantitative genetics
3. Cytogenetics
4. Phenomics
5. Artificial intelligence
6. Perennial crop breeding
7. Annual crop breeding
8. Genomic-wide selection and genomic-wide association
V. Any other factors not mentioned in this document will be defined by the Scientific Coordination of GenMelhor.
