III. Short Speakers summary

Speaker: Dr. Dario Grattapaglia – Embrapa Recursos Genéticos e Biotecnologia (Brasil)

Graduated in Forestry Engineering from the University of Brasília (1985) and Ph.D. in Genetics from North Carolina State University (1994). He works as a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology. His research is focused on plant genetics, breeding, and genomic sciences with an emphasis on forest species.

 

Speaker: Dra. Aline Cristina Miranda – Suzano Papel e Celulose (Brasil)

Graduated in Biological Sciences from the University Center Herminio Ometto de Araras (2009), Master (2012) and PhD in Forestry Science (2016), both from the São Paulo State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho". She served as executive coordinator of the Cooperative Program on Forestry Improvement at the Institute of Forestry Research and Studies. She is currently a researcher in Genetics and Forestry Improvement at Suzano Papel e Celulose.

 

Speaker: Ph.D. Roberto Fritsche-Neto – International Rice Research Institute (Filipinas)

Graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the Federal University of Pelotas (2006), Master in Agronomy (Genetics and Plant Breeding) from the University of São Paulo (2008) and Ph.D. in Genetics and Breeding from the Federal University of Viçosa (2011). He has experience in plant breeding, working with quantitative genetics, genomic selection, and breeding analytics. He is currently a senior scientist at the International Rice Research Institute.

 

Speaker: Dra. Carina Anoni – Bayer crop science (Brasil)

Graduated in agronomist from the Federal University of Viçosa (2010), master (2012) and PhD (2016) in genetics and plant breeding, both from the Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz". She has experience in the areas of plant genetics and breeding, quantitative genetics, and statistical genetics. She is currently a soybean product development lead at Bayer Crop Science.

 

Speaker: Ph.D. Zhao-Bang Zeng – NC State University (EUA)

Graduated in animal science from the Agricultural University of Huazhong, China (1981) and Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (1986). He has experience in theoretical and statistical quantitative genetics. He works on the development of statistical methods to analyze the genetic architecture of quantitative traits using the multiple range mapping approach. He is currently William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor at North Caroline State University (EUA).

 

Speaker: Ph.D. Alencar Xavier – Corteva agriscience (EUA)

Graduated in agronomy from the Federal University of Santa Maria (2011). PhD in genetic statistics and breeding from Purdue University (2016). He works at Corteva agriscience (USA), working in quantitative genetics, assisted genomic improvement with emphasis on theoretical and computational aspects of data-driven plant improvement.

 

Speaker: Dra. Camila Azevedo – Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Brasil)

Graduated in Mathematics (2010) from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), Master (2012) and PhD (2015) in Applied Statistics and Biometrics, both at UFV. She has experience in the field of statistical methods applied to genomic wide selection and Bayesian inference. She is currently an adjunct professor at the Department of Statistics at UFV and a Research Productivity Scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and a member of the UFV's Laboratory of Computational Intelligence and Statistical Learning (LICAE).
