Petabytes of Earth observation data are openly available. Experts have access to repeated acquisitions over the same areas; the resulting time series improve our understanding of ecological patterns and processes. Instead of selecting individual images from specific dates and comparing them, researchers can track change continuously. Satellite image time series analysis capture subtle changes in ecosystems and improve the quality of land classification (Picoli et al, 2018; Pelletier et al., 2019; Câmara, 2021; Simoes et al., 2021). Based on advanced computational platforms, big Earth observation (EO) data cubes support time series analysis (Gomes et al., 2021). EO data cubes enable remote sensing experts to advance Science and applications. Currently, there are different initiatives to produce EO data cubes for specific regions, including the Swiss Data Cube (Giuliani et al, 2017), Digital Earth Africa, and the Brazil Data Cube (Ferreira et al., 2020). This section will address state-of-the-art research themes in big Earth observation data cubes, image time series analysis and deep learning
