Date and time:

11:30 to 13:40 on 04/03/2023

Considering the concern about the decline in ecosystem services worldwide and the challenge of meeting current and future demands for natural resources in the face of land use change and climate change, this thematic section aims to present strategies based on spatial models for rural and urban landscape planning to guarantee the ecosystem services provision. Speakers are experts in different spatial modelling methods developed in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) related to ecosystem services, and present results from current publications on the topic. The session will begin with an overview of the landscape planning focusing on ecosystem services, followed by an approach to applying the models to rural landscapes supporting decision-making in programs of payment for ecosystem services and for urban landscapes focusing on expansion of urban green infrastructure. Subsequently, spatial models applied to the maintenance of human health will be discussed. Ending the session, we will present methods and research developed for the planning of restoration and conservation aiming at ecosystem services throughout Brazil
