Hyperspectral Sensors Applied To Watercolor Studies. Where Are We?

Hyperspectral remote sensing applied to study the ocean and inland water bodies has evolved significantly with the launch of new sensors such as PRISMA (Hyperspectral Precursor and Application Mission) and ongoing missions, such as the Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP) and Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, Ocean Ecosystem (PACE). This new set of information raises challenges, ranging from regional data quality control to developing high-quality products of global interest. Such development has, as a prerequisite, a substantial effort by the scientific community to increase field data, environmental bio-optical characterization, simulation, and modelling of radiative processes, in addition to the dissemination and planning of the application of future tools for different research lines and water body management. This section proposes to discuss the art of Hyperspectral remote sensing applied to the global study of ocean and inland water bodies, seeking to identify the knowledge, instrumentation, and expertise gaps that could negatively impact Brazil's contribution to scientific development around the new platforms. Furthermore, we intend to discuss the main strategies for the Brazilian scientific community to benefit from new technologies in a comprehensive and collaborative way.
