The International Symposium Frontiers in Neuroscience is a conference that intends to provide an update on the most recent advances on neurosciences. Our subjects spam from molecular, cellular and biochemical aspects of the nervous system, to clinical perspectives, including the pathogenesis of neurological disorders and the development of disease specific biomarkers. This symposium is an initiative of the Basic and Clinical Neuroscience Research Program at the Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICB) of UFRJ, which is a collaborative and multidisciplinary initiative that involves several renowned institutions in the field of neuroscience in Brazil and abroad. Beyond the Neurosciences Program, we will be also hosting the Neurotranslational National Institute (INNT) annual meeting. The main objective of this meeting is to promote scientific and technological development in the field of neuroscience, facilitating the exchange of experiences and interactions among students, recent doctoral graduates, and professors at the forefront of knowledge in this field. 

The four previous editions of the symposium took place in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2017. We had the privilege of hosting internationally renowned researchers in the field of neuroscience, including Mark Mattson (NIH), Nicole Marthe Le Douarin (CNRS), Michael Merzenich (UCSF), Daphne Bavelier (Univ of Geneve), Raymond A. Swanson (UCSF), David Fitzpatrick (Max Planck Florida, USA), Laurent Nguyen (University of Liège, Belgium), Fabrice Chretien (Institute Pasteur, France), and Zoltán Molnár (University of Oxford, UK).

In 2024, we Will be having the "5th Symposium Frontiers in Neuroscience", to be held in May 2024 in the city of Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro. The format of the symposium has been designed to provide intense interaction between speakers and the audience. During the days of the event, students and professors will be exposed to various scientific activities on the cutting-edge topics of neuroscience, spamming from cognition to neurochemistry. 

Attendees will be able to participate in our symposium in different ways:

• Poster Presentation: Upon registration, students will be able to submit an abstract of their work. If accepted, they can present their research as a poster presentation.

• Young Investigator Lecture: Young researchers can submit their research in the field of neuroscience. They will be selected by our scientific committee for a 10-minute oral presentation in each of our sessions. Those selected will have their accommodation fees covered. • Meet the Scientist: Upon registration, students can subscribe for a one-hour informal conversation with any of the confirmed speakers. (Please subscribe in the Meet the Scientist session – registration required.)
