Dr. Erick de la Barrera

Erick is a research professor of agrarian ecophysiology at the Instituto de Investigaciones en Ecosistemas, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. A plant biologist by training, Prof. de la Barrera holds a B.Sc. from the Universidad de Guadalajara (1997) and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (2003). His research has considered different aspects of ecophysiology, including reproductive ecophysiology and responses to climate change by cultivated cacti, the development of biomonitors of atmospheric nitrogen pollution, and weed performance in urban environments.

Given the socioecological complexity of the rural environment, he has become increasingly interested in social and public policy aspects of food security, with special focus on livelihood adaptations to climate change.
