Prof. Dr. Boelo Schuur holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Groningen (Netherlands). He has experience in the innovative and sustainable development of new separation processes, covering (bio)refineries and bio-based production processes via fermentation—such as the recovery of volatile fatty acids from fermented wastewater; the extraction of lipids, pigments, proteins, and sugars from microalgae; the fractionation of lignocellulosic biomass; and the purification of pyrolytic oils—as well as recycling processes, including plastics recycling by solvolysis, pyrolysis, and gasification, and metals recycling through urban mining. He is currently dedicated to research on separation processes and solvent recovery, as well as reducing fossil energy consumption.
