Prof. Ana Luisa Fernando is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biomass Sciences and Technology (Departamento de Ciências e Tecnologia da Biomassa - DCTB) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCT) of the New University of Lisbon and is integrating the Research Unit of Mechanical Engineering and Resource Sustainability Center (MEtRiCS) hosted at FCT with scientific and administrative autonomy, strategically accommodating the research interests of DCTB. Dr. Fernando has Graduation in Applied Chemistry, specialisation Organic Chemistry, from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1990. Master in Food Technology/Quality, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. 1996. She earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2005.
She is dedicated to teaching and scientific activities in the field of Environmental Biotechnology, in the interface of Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology. Since environment is a ubiquitous field of concerns, the potential areas of interests and interventions are very broad. So, activities were focused on Water and Soil Quality Assessment, Energy Crops, Food Quality and Safety and Waste Management and Treatment. Much of the scientific areas of interest are also intrinsically related with the areas of the teaching activities. Those teaching activities are mainly related to Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Food Technology/Quality/Safety and Bioenergy. As a member of the University there is a permanent share of the know-how with students and members of other research teams. As an Associate Professor, collaborates regularly with other universities and higher education institutions in under graduation, graduation, post-graduation, specialised and advanced courses and formation studies.
