Dr. ANAKE KIJJOA

Dr Kijjoa is a Professor and Head of Chemistry Department of the Biomedical Sciences Institute Abel Salazar and also a Head of the “Chemistry and Biological Activities of Marine Natural Products Research group” of the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) of the University of Porto, Portugal. He received his BSc in Pharmacy (Magna cum laude) from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and PhD in Organic Chemistry from São Paulo University, Brazil in 1980. He was a post-doctoral researcher at the Institüt de Pharmazeutische Biologie, University of Heidelberg, Germany and at the Department of Chemistry, the Florida State University at Tallahassee, Florida, USA, under a supervision of Prof. Werner Herz. He was awarded Honorary Doctorate from three Universities in Thailand in 2008, 2009 and 2018. He was a chairman of the 6^th European Conference on Marine Natural Products (ECMNP) in 2009, and member of International Advisory Board of several ECMNPs. His research interest focuses on isolation, structure elucidation and biological activity evaluation of Natural Products from terrestrial and marine organisms. He has supervised several Master’s and PhD’s of both Portuguese and foreign students as well as post-doctoral fellows. He is currently an Associate Editor of Marine Drugs and member of the Editorial Board of various scientific journals. He is a coauthor of more than 180 original research papers and several book chapters. He was invited as keynote speakers to give plenary lectures in various international conferences.
