Neoconservatism in the world and education in the face of socio-political-environmental violence
The 42nd ANPEd National Meeting & WERA Focal Meeting 2025 has as its theme “Neoconservatism in the world and education in the face of socio-political-environmental violence” and aims to bring together researchers, professors, and postgraduate students from Brazil and the world to reflect on the advance of neoconservatism and violence in various countries and their impacts on education, as well as on the spaces for struggle and resistance against these attacks.
The theme was collectively defined with coordinators of the Working Groups (GT) and Study Groups (GE) – instances that bring together ANPEd's individual associates – the coordinators of the Forum of Coordinators of Postgraduate Programs in Education (Forpred), which brings together institutional associates, in addition to the Forum of Editors of Education Journals (Fepae) and the Scientific Committee, with the objective of inspiring a plural meeting that marks the Association's historical commitment to the right to education, public schooling, critical, rigorous research committed to social justice and democracy.
The theme provokes a critical analysis of neoconservative attacks in multiple dimensions: socio-political and environmental, but also encourages thinking that the struggles and resistances are intense and plural. Struggles built around the subjects in different educational spaces, schools, early childhood education centers, communities, social movements, universities, and so many others through which we collectively weave our research.
Resistances to injustice, exclusion, homophobia, racisms, authoritarianism, environmental destruction. Resistances that demand an understanding of what a full human person is and what the possibilities are for educational processes to contribute to a society where recognition and solidarity are possible.
These are challenging times, and the 42nd ANPEd National Meeting & WERA Focal Meeting 2025 will be a space to renew our capacity for analysis and give visibility to the strength and fruitfulness of Brazilian educational research.
We look forward to seeing you!
