Prof. Dr. Waldo Emerzon Quiroz Venegas

Dr. Quiroz is an Industrial Chemist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and holds a Ph.D. in Sciences with a specialization in Chemistry from the same university and the Université de Pau, France.

Main Research Areas:

• Distribution, reactivity, and effects of chemical contaminants in environmental and biological systems.
• Application of realist philosophy to the semantic analysis of scientific concepts for education.

Professional Trajectory:

Dr. Quiroz has had a distinguished career as:

• A researcher in analytical developments at SQM, one of the leading lithium mining companies.
• A full professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.

Scientific Contributions:

Professor Quiroz has published 60 Web of Science (WoS) articles in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Ecotoxicology, Science Education, and the Philosophy of Chemistry.

He has also authored two popular science books:

• “Naturaleza de la ciencia para todos” (2015)
• “Podemos y debemos investigar” (2023)

Both books received the National Council for Culture and the Arts Award from the Chilean government, leading to their distribution in all public libraries in the country.

Additionally, he has served as an expert committee member for ISO standards, contributing to the development of analytical standards for battery-grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide.
