Jan Kratzer

Lecture topics: ''Volatile Species Atomization in Ambient Plasmas for Trace Determination of Metals by Atomic Spectrometry''

Jan Kratzer received his Ph.D. in 2008 from Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Czech Republic where he acts as an external lecturer. He spent in total 11 months at National Research Council Canada, Ottawa, Canada and 10 weeks at Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS), Dortmund, Germany. He has been the head of the Department of Trace Element Analysis at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences since 2020. His current research interests include atomization of volatile compounds in ambient plasmas, in-atomizer preconcentration and trace element and speciation analysis. He has co-authored 63 articles (h-index 20), 4 national patents, 2 utility models and around 150 conference contributions including 4 invited lectures. He has been a principal investigator of 10 scientific projects and a co-investigator of one international project. Jan has been the second vice-chairman of Ioannes Marcus Marci Spectroscopic Society since 2024, an editorial board member in Frontiers in Chemistry since 2021 and Atomic Spectroscopy since 2020. He is also active in Chemistry Olympiad (ChO), an international subject competition for high school students, acting as the chairman of the Regional ChO Committee in Prague and a committee member of National ChO Committee of the Czech Republic.
