Alexandre Amaral Leitão

UFJF - Brazil - Materials, Surfaces, and Catalysis
Alexandre Amaral Leitão

Alexandre holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry (1995) and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (2001) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has experience in Chemistry with emphasis on Physical Chemistry. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, where he coordinates the Physical Chemistry of Solids and Interfaces Group-GFQSI (www.ufjf.br/gfqsi). The focus of the GFQSI is the determination of physicochemical properties of materials, surfaces and the molecule-surface interface by first principal calculations and spectroscopic methods. The materials of greatest interest are mixed oxides, lamellar double hydroxides, Zn hydroxy salts, smectites, and metal-organic fragments (MOF). The main areas of application are heterogeneous catalysis, selective molecular adsorption, and selective ion exchange.
